… does anyone still ask for a nasty plastic supermarket bag anymore… I know they must, in fact I see them do it with my own eyes but it does seem incredible that with so many alternative options available that anyone even has the gaul to not bring their own bags to the supermarket… ok, we’re not all perfect and sometimes life gets in the way but now that we’re all a little more aware of the damage that these seemingly endless supply of plastic bags can do to the environment it seems a little odd to me that they’re still available as an option…
… the brilliant dotcomgiftshop have a large selection of very cute shopping bags, amongst some other lovely gifts on their very user-friendly website… they recently asked me if i’d like to review a couple of items and sent me to their site to chose what I wanted to receive… after suffering a small embolism from the choice of retro-chic goodies I settled on this adorable mini milk-bottle crate complete with 6 mini milk-bottles as they reminded me of the time when we were given a small bottle of milk during break at school.. I realise this ages me tremendously and that many of you won’t have such rose-tinted memories of being forced to drink warm milk at school but I loved it and I thought these little beauties would make very sweet wild-flower vases… and after raiding The Viking’s glorious garden for some stunning specimens I’m sure you’ll agree…

Oh yes, bottles of warm milk – I hated them. Happy to drink in the winter when cold though. School and food do not combine to make happy memories for me. Your milk bottle stand is rather cute and the Viking's stolen flowers are just lovely.

I think I'd put my picnic in it too although I'm too far from the sea here it would have to be picnic in the park instead of the beach, less sand in the sandwiches!

Dom: I remember those same milk bottles in elementary school and recently purchased some!! I have some very nice grocery bags that stay in my car for toting, not only groceries, but other shopping items. On the off chance, that I do end up with a plastic bag, I use it to line a trash can. Thanks for reminding us to do our part for the environment.
Best,
Bonnie

Ugh, school milk. I was always very good at sums, but used to deliberately got some answers wrong in tests because as a special treat the people who got the best marks were given an extra bottle of milk in the afternoon break, by which time it had had another 5 hours sitting in the sun and was starting to solidify.
Anyway, back to the bag, I'd use mine for carrying competition leaflets when I go out hunting for them (shameless plug for Grape Vine there)
Mark Willis says
As Jane well knows, I have a horror of milk too. I went to school in Devon, and our daily ration of (compulsory) milk was about three quarters cream. Horrible! I would always try to find someone to drink mine for me. Now if they had offered us cheese instead, that would have been a VERY different matter!
I think the supermarket plastic carrier bags serve a purpose – they are OK if you have genuinely forgotten your shopping bag – or popped into the supermarket for an impulse buy – but should not be used as a metter of course.

Put me right in the most summertime mood, reading this post! Must be flowers and sunshine on your terrace! And yes, I remember glass mini-bottles of snack milk at school! Loved it too! Ours was always cold milk, though … and we collected the little paper lids that popped from the inner bottle rims … they were decorated with pictures of the Presidents of the US or state flags or kinds of trees, depending on the 'series de month'. Fun memories, Dom!

The flowers are so pretty and easy to look at. There aren't a hundred different stems to appreciate, just a few very select lovelies. I must admit, that sometimes I forget my re-cycled bags:(

Magnolia Verandah says
These are good for knitting to be carried around on trains as the needles don't pearce through and stab anyone. Equally good being stuffed full of fruit and veg or milk as being oiled if there are any breakages you are not immediately in dire straits.
I remember that warm milk uggh!
Sue/the view from great island says

Oh gosh….school milk, I HATED it, warm in summer and icy cold in winter the exact opposite of what you wanted it to be. The only good thing was blowing down the straws and making bubbles until the teacher caught you !!
I ALWAYS take my reusuable bags to the supermarket, they live in the boot of my car so I don't forget, if I forget to take them in with me (which happens) then I put all the shopping back into the trolley after paying and pack them at the car.
Isabella says
I HATED school milk – although it was only seven or eight years ago I had to stop drinking it *shudder* I'd use the bag going out shopping for clothes or birthday present shopping – it's not only supermarkets that give away plastic bags!

I get the “you know what” taken out of me at work as I am always carrying my shopping bags round with me (one stuffed inside another) for anything I need on my way home. What people don't get I guess is that I don't have transport atm so I can't leave my bags in the car oh no they have to come with me. through lack of transport and combined with living in a caravan (long story had a house fire) and lack of space its shop on regular basis. So atm I am using Tescos own jute bags but with a pretty floral one like this I would “hide” them all in there – much prettier. I guess those that do laugh at me carrying the bags round probably don't understand what its like to not have a car and/or rather get lots of carriers in the shops – where I say reuse where you can! Each to their own.
Cheers
Jx
