…as another year draws to it’s inevitable close we can be thankful for two things… one – I’d like to thank you for all your brilliant entries this month… I know how busy December can be so to receive any entries is utterly fantastic… and two – let’s all thank the Mayan’s for getting it wrong…
… as you know this month’s random recipes was a competition for two of you to win £15 Sainsbury’s book token’s which is a fab opportunity to round-up my time as a Sainsbury’s Christmas Ambassador… Our host needs to take a look at all the entries which she will do over the next couple of days and I will announce a winner at the launch of random recipes 2013… until then here’s December for you…
… stuffed to the belly with brussels but still first off the mark is Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Kitchen and her festive Christmas Muffins taken from Sarah Raven’s Complete Christmas Food and Flowers…
view the rest of your amazing entries after the break…
next up is Natalie the Hungry Hinny with a very near-eastern inspired Koulouri taken from last years 100 Great Breads by Paul Hollywood and happens to be a full circle for her as this was the book she cooked from last year too! (you see how it works…)
and here’s Solange from Pebble Soup which, without doubt is clearly up there at the top of the leader board when it comes to ‘most random’ with her Baked Bean Soup taken from the brilliant Celebration of Soups by Lindsey Bareham… come on though….
next up is Elizabeth from Law Students Cook Book and her very stylish looking Spicy Italian Chicken taken from her one and only and brilliantly titled Fix-it and Forget-it Big Cookbook
and then here’s Claire from Under the Blue Gum Tree and her Drunken Chicken and Bruised Salad… sounds like she’s been in a bit of a brawl… taken from Alvin Quah’s Australian Masterchef The Cookbook Volume Two
next up is Phil from As Strong As Soup and even though he gave up buying or receiving Christmas gifts a while ago her still managed to find a relevant book and come up with his rather fancy Confit d’Oignon taken from The Paris Cafe Cookbook by Daniel Young
here’s a very lovely recipe from Susie at Fold in the Flour with her Chocolate Glazed Gingercakes taken from the doyen of American cake baking, Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook… warming and gingery and I WANT ONE NOW!
next up and it’s a yo ho ho from Janice over at Farmersgirl Kitchen and some improvised Christmas Dried Fruit Compote taken not from a book she was given as a christmas present but a christmas themed book… new glasses for Janice this year methinks…
and meanwhile over at the Chocolate Log Blog Choclette went truffle crazy with these stunning Rosemary Chocolate Truffles taken from the impossibly beautiful Cooking with Chocolate by Frederik Bau… a book she wishes she hadn’t chosen but boy am I glad she did!
next up is chocolate covered Caroline from Caroline Makes and her fabulous Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls taken from the Green and Black’s Ultimate Chocolate Recipes… don’t you just want to sink your teeth in!
ok… talking of weirdly random here’s Gary from Exploits of a Food Nut with a rather odd-sounding but very delicious looking Rice Pudding Pork taken from the River Cottage Meat Book… where else!
next up is Lucy from The KitchenMaid and her stunning Roasted Potato Salad take from Anne Somerville’s brilliant Field of Greens book… I may just be tucking into this at the Greens restaurant in San Fran as you read this…
here’s our first random recipes virgin… which is appropriate at cringletide is it not… so please welcome St Mary herself… no actually it’s the lovely Sally from SallyAtkins.com and her divine blackberry vodka taken from Nigella’s Kitchen
and next is adorable Karen from Lavender and Lovage with a very festive Sprouts and Cheese dish taken from Nigel Slaters Plenty… now a bowl of this and Karen and Nigel as company would a perfect Christmas make!
here’s lovely Jean from Baking in Franglais with a wonderfully warming random recipes of a bowl of Poulet Basque… with chicken thighs of course… taken from The French County Table by Laura Washburn
next is the adorable Kate from What Kate Baked with her SECOND christmas cake taken from HRH Delia of Smith’s Christmas book… loving 2 cakes…
and here’s Denise from Magnolia Verandah with these very cute a very traditional Gingerbread Men taken from a Readers Digest book called Like Grandma Used to Make
whilst we’re here let’s not forget little old me and my fabulous Mango Chutney Chicken Thighs taken from Notes from the Jam Cupboard by Mary Tregellas… who actually tweeted me when I posted the recipe on my blog!
next up is Amanda from Dancing Veggies… no picture here because hubby’s new christmas camera wasn’t quite playing ball but her Morning Glory Muffins taken from Morning Glory Farm
and finally for December here’s the lovely Ruth from Makey-Cakey and this time, whilst it’s yet another soup, at least this one looks slightly delicious and doesn’t have a giant banana sticking out of it… yes it’s Melon and Blackberry Soup taken from Eat Tweet
… and so as we glide gently into 2013 all that’s left for me to say is thank you for another wonderful year of random recipes… I cannot begin to tell you the delight I get when I receive your entries each month… it makes me feel very special… which in turn makes me feel less bad about how horrid i’m going to be to you in January!
Happy New Year…

They all look amazing! Sorry I didn't join in this time – the only recipe book I got last Christmas was “My Vietnam” by Luke Nguyen, which I really got for reading rather than for cooking from. I did try opening it at random a few times to see if I could find anything I could cook, but Mark's allergies to fish, seafood and coriander ruled practically everything out so it just wouldn't have been random. I hope you do the same again next year with this Christmas's books though!

Lovely round up Dom, and thank you for organising it every month. I may not always be able to enter but I always look forward to finding out what fiendish plan you have each month and then seeing what comes out of everyone's books. Here's to more in 2013. 🙂 x

Hold on a moment, 3 of the chicken pieces in the pan are legs. Are you looking at them through rose-coloured (notice the spelling) glasses? Would love to salute you in person at the New Year. But it would take too long to swim there.

Great round up and I am so sorry I didn't participate. My cookbooks finally arrived just in time and I had great intentions but everyone know what the roads to hell are paved with. They all look marvelous but I may have to overcome my fear of chicken thighs to try yours first, Dom.
Caroline says
What a tantalizing sign-off… can't wait to see what you have in store for us in January!

January is a hard enough month Dom without you being mean to us too. Mind you I'm not sure folk are going to be that keen on what I have in store for them for WSC either!!!!! Lovely round-up as ever and I wish you and the Viking not only a better year than this one but a truly fabulous 2013.
