so… in my continuing effort towards world domination (oh god Dom, not that AGAIN…) I have been asked to audition for the second series of Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard … it’s quite exciting as I get to go down to the Big Smoke and meet the gang, charm the pants off them, get on the show, which is showing on one of the main UK channels this time and not some kind of obscure off shoot of BBC Bristol, make them fall in love with me so much that they offer me my own TV show, become a huge star… a few simple steps to world domination which start with this chocolate orange roulade…
… now I realise that I only very recently made a chestnut cream roulade but the team at the TV production company asked me to bring something along that I am proud to have baked and shows off my skills and so I thought of this little beauty… of course I couldn’t just rustle up the same old same old so i’ve given it a little twist by using the wonderful chocolate orange fairtrade chocolate I used recently when I made my honey buns, plus I have used just a little of the wonderful syrup in the whipped cream to add even more of an orange hit… and I have to say I have hit jackpot here, even if I do say so myself!
chocolate orange roulade
I am of course entering this into this months we should cocoa, as my second entry, thank you very much…
Sarah, Maison Cupcake says
Yum! I love choc orange.
Do bear this in mind if you get as far as filming anything!
“Four Ladies and a Croquembouche”
Unless it's something you want badly enough I'd be wary of putting yourself out too much for them – we ran the gauntlet of booking time off work for partners and reorganising time and time again when they kept changing the filming schedule. They even chopped our filming dates in half so that we were meant to make our blasted croquembouche AGAIN on the morning of the show and assemble it in Eric's Kitchen. Personally I think they're looking for people who are going to have disasters on camera. It's more Come Dine With Me than Great British Bake Off and the whole experience has made me very cynical about TV.
But that's just me being a kill joy! Get on there and win! (What is the prize anyway?)
Channel 4 isn't it? Is it going to be primetime this year instead of during the day?
Elaine says
Dom, Can I have your autograph pleeeease? Chocolate orange roulade – that's a real winner for me.
Good luck!
Mark Willis says
I don't know about Eric Lanlard, I want one of those for ME!
Hope the session goes well for you, and I look forward to following your TV series in due course… 🙂
Dom at Belleau Kitchen says
@sarah… thanks for raining on my parade… :0) I realise that it's all 'for TV' so as long as I keep my eyes open…
Fuss Free Helen says
I am with Sarah here Dom.
Hopefully they have got their act together, but the entire thing left a very nasty taste in our mouths and competely destroyed memories what was a fun day filming, and did little to endear us to either Baking Mad or Eric. To add insult to injury the production company contacted Katie 6 months later and asked her if she would be interested in taking part in the next series.
Given the opportunites we all get from our sites I now realise that a day of filming with Eric is not enough of an incentive for something that is going to cost me time, effort, emotional energy and money.
We were all desperately excited about it at the time, and were thrilled that we were going to be doing it. Now I am an ond cynic.
Lovely roulard however!

Don't let a bunch of Bitter Bettys spoil your fun, Dom!
I do know what they mean, because I was gutted when I got booted off the programme I was on (despite being better than the other guy – I think they wanted someone with flaws that they could correct). But TV is fun. I'll be watching. 🙂
Suelle says
I'm very impressed with the rolling here, Dom. Good luck with the TV thing, but heed the warnings too!

Knock 'em dead, give it the old college try! You can do this, you are the “Great and Powerful Dom” – just remember the “little people” who encouraged you! Give 'em hell!
Susan Lindquist says
This sounds like another chapter in the exciting life of Dom and His Quest For World Domination! My opinion? Can't go wrong with a light and fluffy roulade and the chocolate and orange combo is just decadent to 'do them in'!
Have at it, Dom!
Choclette says

Dom .. you are a genius! What a beautiful roll.
Sarah & Helen .. I remember the filming thing being such a disappointment, you've both been live with me on my BBC radio show and I was so shocked when you said.. you are both brilliant in the kitchen.. something very odd there!
