… it’s odd, this lull time between now and The Big Day… I kinda feel like I should be eating sparingly… salads and soups… and it’s weird because with all the planning and lists i’m not that hungry… well my sweet tooth has gone completely out the window… but I still need to eat…
… I thought I’d give my beloved chicken thighs the Gwyneth Paltrow 10 Hour treatment…it’s so simple with barely anything to do but leave it in the oven for 10 hours… giving me plenty of time to do some last minute shopping, wrap prezzies and generally enjoy a couple of good old-fashioned Christmas movies… I wasn’t quite sure how they’d turn out, not being the whole bird but boy oh boy are these babies good… succulent, tender to the point that they’re falling off the bone and they have the most intense chicken flavour… and the juices that have come out of the thighs are so clear and full of wonderful richness… i’m considering doing a Christmas Turkey this way just to see how it comes out!

I'm going to try this on the next freezing cold day. I love when the oven is on for the whole day, my kitchen gets toasty warm. The thighs look delicious.

Hmmm; certainly not Fast Food! Requires a bit of forethought, but I bet it's worthwhile.

ooh yum yum! i've roasted chicken with orange before too, but with five spice instead. thyme and honey and vegetables sound yum! and the 10 hour treatment DEFINITELY looks like it did the trick. they really are falling off the bone!

My mother did a fancy cookery course years and years ago – and they told her that orange was a far better addition than lemon in 90% of recipes!
Perfect recipe for this frazzeled time of year.

This looks wonderful, I love the idea of leaving anything in the oven for hours and hours and with honey and orange…..

This is a perfect recipe for the cold weather to have the kitchen warmed by the sumptuous smell of chicken cooking slowing all day long – sadly Christmas day looks like being much the same as today 30degs. Looks like I will have to have the airconditioning on while I cook the turkey! I am definitely on the salads that red dress is going to fit even if it kills me! a very Merry Christmas I have thoroughly enjoyed discovering your blog.

Sounds like a good plan. Have been so busy that normal eating has disappeared and just grabbing whatever unhealthy snack I can lay my hands on.
Watching Christmas movies sounds bliss. Any recommendations?
Hope you and the Viking have a fabulously festive time and enjoy that Christmas food.

Funny you should say that, we have been having a frugal week, although that was mainly due to me misreading the scales and thinking I was 12lb heavier than last time -eek! Dared to look again this morning and realised my mistake! Anyway, it's done me good, will enjoy the feasting season all the more. Have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to more deliciousness in the New Year.

Leave it to you to post the perfect 'busy day- must eat well, but no time to fuss' recipe! These thighs look awesome! And the use of orange has got to give them such nice aroma and citrus flavour!
Excellent, Dom! One more thigh recipe for your cookbook!

I am a thigh girl with the rest of you, all that skin & bone does wonders for the flavour. Read lots of good reviews about Gwynnie's book and now you have just confirmed that the dishes DO actually taste good, I shall try! Xx
